About Phantom Of The Opera

The legendary, unforgettable musical, The Phantom of the Opera traces the tragic love story of a beautiful opera singer and a young composer shamed by his physical appearance into a shadowy existence beneath the majestic Paris Opera House.

Show story

Christine Daaé is a beautiful singer at the Opera Populaire, who becomes the object of the Phantom’s obsessive affections. The Phantom comes to Christine at night as the ‘Angel of Music’ and fixes events so that she can get the principle role. Christine’s love for Raoul angers the Phantom so he takes his revenge.

Phantom Background

The Phantom of the Opera was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe. The musical opened at Her Majesty's Theatre on 9 October 1986. Originally playing the roles of the Phantom and Christine were Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman: their version of ‘The Music of the Night’ made the UK top ten.

The Phantom of the Opera has proved a huge success from day one. It is estimated that over 52 million people have see the show and it's won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical plus 7 Tonys.

EARL CARPENTER plays the Phantom from 12 December 2011 until 17 March 2012.

PETER JÖBACK plays the Phantom from 19 March 2012 until 01 September 2012.
