Marguerite: new musical world premiere
The Haymarket Theatre in London’s West End will play host to the world premiere of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s new musical Marguerite: a dangerous love story played out against the backdrop of Occupied Paris.
If previous form is anything to go by, Marguerite will be a huge global hit, with Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg having also penned the musicals Les Miserables, Miss Saigon and Martin Guerre. Boublil and Schönberg drew inspiration for Marguerite from epic romantic novel, La Dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas.
Joining Boublil and Schönberg on this brand new musical are Oscar award-winning musical legend Michel Legrand; lyricist Herbert Kretzmer (who worked with the pair on Les Misérables) and director Jonathan Kent.
The musical story revolves around Marguerite, the beautiful and notorious mistress of a high ranking German official who embarks upon a dangerous love affair with Armand; a musician half her age and a member of the resistance.
Marguerite is played by award-winning West End and Broadway actress Ruthie Henshall, who has recently returned from the States. Young musician Armand is played Julian Ovenden, while Alexander Hanson takes the role of German officer Otto.
Marguerite promises to be one of the most exciting musicals to open in the West End this year, with a stellar cast and an equally impressive creative team. The show opens on 6 May and runs until November, buy your tickets today for a visual and musical treat.
