About Billy Elliot

Billy Elliot the Musical is based on the multi-award winning film directed by Stephen Daldry and is playing in London’s Victoria Palace Theatre. The musical tells the story of one boy’s struggle to achieve his dancing dreams in a masculine mining town.

Show story

On route to boxing lessons Billy Elliot happens upon a ballet lesson, enthralled, he secretly joins the class (knowing his father would never approve) and flourishes under the guidance of Mrs Wilkinson. When Billy’s father discovers his son’s plans to attend the Royal Ballet School, Billy has to fight to preserve his dreams and his destiny.

Billy Elliot background

Billy Elliot the Musical reunites original film director, Stephen Daldry with screenplay writer, Lee Hall: it also enlists the talents of Elton John who composed the original score. With a fantastic young cast, the London stage version of Billy Elliot takes you on an emotional rollercoaster in a touching story of triumph over adversity.

Critically acclaimed production

Billy Elliot opened at the Victoria Palace Theatre, in London’s West End to widespread critical acclaim in March 2005. Since then it's gone on to win Best Musical at the Olivier Awards and the Evening Standard Awards. Still packing out the theatre two years on, be sure not to miss out on your chance to see Billy Elliot live.
