About Carmina Burana
Enjoy Carl Orff’s towering masterpiece Carmina Burana during an excellent evening of music at the Royal Albert Hall. The evening also features the Organ Symphony by Saint-Saëns with Stephen Disley playing the Great Organ.
Carmina Burana Background
Camina Burana is a scenic cantata composed by Carl Orff between 1935 and 1936. It is based on the 24 poems of the medieval collection, Carmina Burana. The piece is structured into five major sections, containing 13 movements. Carmina Burana revolves around the idea of the turning Fortuna Wheel, moving the story through diverse emotions: from hope to grief; joy to bitterness.
The players
Carmina Burana at the Royal Albert Hall features the Royal Choral Society, the English Concert Chorus, the Hertfordshire Chorus, the Southend Boys' Choir and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Andrew Greenwood conducts the ensemble, with soloist performances from Claire Ormshaw (Soprano), Mark Wilde (Tenor) and David Kempster (Baritone).
