About Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, at the Adelphi Theatre, is a colourful retelling of the biblical story of Joseph. The narrator leads us through Joseph’s highs and lows on route to fulfilling his dreams. Lee Mead, winner of BBC1’s Any Dream Will Do, stars as Joseph, with Bollywood Dreams actress Preeya Kalidas as the narrator.

Show story

Joseph is Jacob’s favourite son: his 11 brothers are jealous of his coat (a gift from their father). They sell Joseph into slavery and tell Jacob that his son is dead. In Egypt, Joseph’s ability to interpret dreams helps him rise to a powerful position in the Pharaoh’s house. When famine strikes his family come to Egypt, how will the reunion play out?

Joseph background

Joseph was the second musical written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. Joseph was originally commissioned for a school concert but as its popularity grew, the transition from amateur production to professional show was made. Successful in the West End and Broadway, Joseph has been revived many times in London: the latest being in 2007.

Famous Josephs

The role of Joseph has been played by many famous men, including Jason Donovan, Philip Schofield, Steven Gately, John Barrowman and now Lee Mead. Lee won the musical talent show Any Dream Will Do and has proved so popular in the role that his initial run has been extended until June 2008.

Please note...

Lee Mead will NOT be performing on and between 5-10 May, 25-27 June, 28 July to 5 August and 3 to 11 November 2008.
