Stomp originated from Brighton in 1991 and was the product of a ten-year collaboration between its creators Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas. Stomp has recently moved from the Vaudeville Theatre to the Ambassadors Theatre to continue its West End run.

STOMP is a unique, award-winning show that has thrilled audiences all over the world. The show combines elements of theatre, dance, comedy and percussion to turn the clutter of urban life into the source of infectious rhythm that your toe will be tapping along to.

Stomp Background

Stomp founders Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas first worked together in 1981 as members of the street busking band, Pookiesnackenburger and the theatre group, Cliff Hanger. In the summer of 1991, Stomp previewed at London’s Bloomsbury Theatre and premiered at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh where it won the ‘Best of Fringe Award’.

Growing popularity

From 1991-1994, the original eight members of STOMP played to capacity audiences around the world: including Hong Kong, Barcelona and Sydney. The tour culminated in a sell-out season at London’s Sadler’s Wells Theatre, where STOMP received an Olivier nomination for Best Entertainment Award and won Best Choreography Award. STOMP came to the West End in 2002, opening at the Vaudeville Theatre with a much larger cast.
