About Wicked
Wicked is an original musical based loosely on the Gregory Maguire novel. The spell-binding show explores the idea that the Wicked Witch of the West, from the Wizard of Oz, was not evil at all. In fact she was victimised and misunderstood.
Show Story
Wicked tells the story of a rocky friendship between two girls: the blond and popular Glinda and the misunderstood green girl, Elphaba (who is destined to become the infamous Wicked Witch of the West). The witches’ friendship is tested by their opposing views and love for the same man. Wicked takes us into unseen territory, to the Land of Oz before Dorothy arrives.
Wicked Background
Wicked was originally developed for film but it was decided that the story would work better as a stage musical. Wicked opened on Broadway in 2003 and made the transition to London’s West End in 2006. Since then over 700,000 people have watched Wicked and it was made over £25 million. Idina Menzel, who plays Elphaba, won the Tony Award for Best Actress.
