About the Adelphi Theatre
Joseph and His Technicolour Dreamcoat starring Any Dream Will Do! Winner Lee Mead is the latest hit musical at The Adelphi Theatre.
The Adelphi Theatre is in the heart of London’s Theatreland. The Adelphi first opened under the name ‘Sans Pareil’ in September 1806 before changing its name to The Adelphi in 1819.
In 1858 it was replaced by a new building christened The New Adelphi and then Royal Delphi in 1867. It was redesigned in an Art Deco style by Ernest Schaufelberg in 1930 and given a Grade II listing in 1987.
The Adelphi Theatre has hosted many famous shows including Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s epic musical Evita in 2006. Dame Anna Neagle appeared in Cameron Mackintosh’s 1979 production of My Fair Lady. Smash-hit musical Chicago also made its West End debut featuring Ute Lemper, Ruthie Henshall, Nigel Planer and Henry Goodman.
