About the Fortune Theatre
The Fortune Theatre in London’s West End seats 432 and was the first theatre to be built in London after World War I. Ernest Schaufelberg was commissioned by impresario Laurence Cowen to create an Italianate style building from 1922-24.
The historic Cockpit Theatre had once stood on this site as did the old Albion Tavern, a public house frequented by Georgian and Victorian actors.
Originally called the Fortune Thriller Theatre, the Fortune Theatre has housed The Woman In Black since 1989. Prior to this production, the theatre saw actors including Dame Judi Dench, Dirk Bogarde and Maureen Lipman grace its stage.
