About the London Palladium
The Sound of Music is the latest smash-hit musical to appear at the Grade II listed London Palladium. The theatre was originally built in 1910, although the façade dates back to the 19th century. The London Palladium was once a wooden structure housing an aviary, it has also been used as a skating rink with real ice and a circus venue with a flooded ring.
The London Palladium has seen many performances by musical legends including Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Petula Clark, Sammy Davis Jr and Marvin Gaye. It is perhaps best known for the 1950s television show, 'Saturday Night at the Palladium'.
Previous musicals here include ‘Saturday Night Fever’ choreographed by Arlene Philips, ‘The King and I’ starring Elane Paige and ‘Oliver!’ starring Jonathan Pryce and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with Jason Donovan, Michael Ball and Richard O’Brien.
