About the Noel Coward Theatre
Broadway hit musical Avenue Q is currently enjoying its European premiere at the Noel Coward Theatre. Located on St Martin’s Lane, the Noel Coward Theatre opened as the New Theatre in 1903 with a classical-style exterior and Rococo-style exterior. It became the Albery Theatre in 1973 and was finally renamed the Noel Coward Theatre in 2006 (honouring the actor who made his debut in his own play ‘I’ll Leave It To You,’ in 1920).
George Bernard Shaw’s ‘St Joan’ featuring Sybil Thorndike ran in 1924, John Gieguid directed and played the title role of ‘Hamlet’ in 1934. His company at the time included Jessica Tandy and Alex Guiness.
Laurence Olivier appeared in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and more recently Trevor Eve, Helen Mirren, John Hurt and Roger Allam have enjoyed great success here at the Noel Coward Theatre.
