About the Wyndham's Theatre
Wyndham’s Theatre and the Criterion were both opened by actor manager Charles Wyndham. The Wyndham opened in November 1899 with a revival of T.W. Robertson’s ‘David Garrick’.
The Wyndham has long been known for showcasing screen stars in stage roles. Tallulah Bankhead made her stage debut here in 1910, as did Madonna in the sell-out production of ‘Up For Grabs’ in 2002. Holly Hunter appeared in ‘By the Bog of Cats’ (2004), Ruby Wax in ‘The Witches’ (2005) and Sienna Miller in ‘As You Like It’ (2005).
Other renowned shows at the Wyndham include the phenomenally successful ‘Godspell’ (1972) with David Essex, Marti Webb and Jeremy Irons and the British premiere of Edward Albee’s ‘Three Tall Women’ starring Maggie Smith.
